John Guilford's Hikes
Snoqualmie Peak (sort of) on 1991-05-26
Date: 1991-05-26
People: (including myself): Jay Wardle
The weather was overcast most of the time. The sun came out occasionally
and we got occasional real light drizzle, too. The trail started off in
mud, but, almost immediately, we got into snow and stayed on snow most of
the way. With all the snow, route finding was hard. Apparently we went
too far across the basin and ended up cutting back most of the way.
When you are in trees without a trail staying in one direction is hard.
Once we started down one direction, decided that it was going in the wrong
direction, took a right, and eventually ended up back where we started
from. We then pulled out compasses to try and keep on the correct path.
We finally found our way up to the pass and then turned back (due to lack
of time). We followed some footsteps down which ended up avoiding the
creek crossing, but put us down a little ways down the road from where we
parked. My boots leaked, and my feet were soaked due to the melting snow.
