There is a little walk from the road until you get to the spit proper.
Normally you can drive further in, but the park was closed for the winter,
so we had to walk in from the road.
The spit goes out a long ways (5 miles) and is the longest sand spit in
the U.S. It is probably about 50-100 ft wide for most of its length with a
lighthouse on the end. It is sand around the edges with dunes/logs/grass
in the middle. We only got about half way out before we had to turn back
due to the time. It was a pretty cool day, but surprisingly, there was
almost no breeze when we were there, so it felt warm. We got a nice view
of the Olympic Mtn's hiding under the cloud cover. The sand was firm and
made easy walking.
