John Guilford's Hikes
Mt. Pilchuck on 2025-07-29
Date: 2025-07-29
People: (including myself): Happy Hikers
Alt. Miles
Trailhead: 9:00 3160 0
Lookout: 11:30 5324 3
Leave: 12:30
Trailhead: 3:00 4.2
The access road to the trailhead is still in great shape. It
starts and ends paved, with gravel in the middle. Some washboard,
but not bad.
On the hike up, there is a prominent peak to the northeast.
It seemed too close and not snowy enough to be Three Fingers,
but indeed it was Three Fingers, though not from the viewing
angle I usually see it.
The day was warm but not oppressively hot. I brought 2 water
bottles which were barely enough. Three might have been better
(or at least a third one to leave in the car).
I spent about an hour at the lookout eating lunch, enjoying the views
and taking pictures, and hanging out with my friends.
On the way back down I used poles which I found helped. The trail is a
bit rough, particularly the top half with lots of rocks and stepping up/down,
and the poles helped especially on the step downs.
Pictures:
View of the rocky upper part of Mt. Pilchuck.
View down ridge from near the lookout.
First view of the lookout and ladder.
View eastward from the lookout.
Panorama from lookout going from north around east to south.
