The trail starts off a bit below Artist's Point and initally descends 800 feet into a valley. It flattens out a bit before there is a trail junction with the left trail starts up towards Lake Ann. This is the low spot in the trail. The trail climbs through rocky terrain exposed to the sun, crests a ridge, and descends a short way to Lake Ann

It was sunny and not as hot as when we did this hike last year. At the lake we initially were going to eat lunch in the same clump of trees (providing shade) as last year, but then we moved down to near the lake. There was some shade, but I opted to sit in the sun as it was a bit cool in the shade for my taste.

We had broken the group into two different start times to keep the group size down to 12 due to the Wilderness area. About the time we were finishing lunch, the second group arrived.

After lunch we finished circling the lake and headed back. One of our group got pretty tired which slowed things down a bit, especially on the final climb back to the trailhead.
