I'd forgotten there is a 4 mile drive on a gravel road from highway 2 to
the trailhead. It was in good condition and easily navigable in a
regular car.
The trail is relatively flat with some ups and down for the first mile
and a quarter, then climbing a bit as one nears the lake.
At one point we crossed a dry rocky creek bed. There was a little log bridge,
so I assume there is a creek there sometime, but it was bone dry rocks today.
The lake was pretty low. The whole east half (judging from the map) was dry
and grassy.
The day was warm but the trail is shady and then shaded by the looming Baring Mountain
near the lake. At the far end of the lake, one can take a left and climb the hillside
to Stone Lake and Eagle Lake. That route isn't really a trail so much as a steep boot
track that can be difficult to follow at times. We turned around at the far end
of Barclay Lake.
